Specification & Inspection Planning
Use a controlled drawing and an agreed acceptance plan to connect your enquiry, sample review and repeat order. This guide organises the information to request; it is not a test certificate, completed inspection report or guarantee of a particular tolerance.

Three different kinds of information
| Information | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Published nominal specification | A listed dimension, material description or configuration reference. It does not by itself establish tolerance or measured performance. |
| Agreed order specification | The accepted drawing revision, configuration, quantities, critical limits and supply scope for the order. |
| Inspection result | A record of an actual check on identified parts or samples, using the agreed method and acceptance criterion. |
Build an inspection request
Start with the features that control fit and use. Agree the method and sample scope before asking for a report; a generic “QC passed” label cannot explain what was checked.
| Product route | Checks to discuss | Inputs needed |
|---|---|---|
| Tubes | Outside/inside section, wall, cut length, end condition and critical fits. | Section drawing, measurement positions, mating interfaces and applicable limits. |
| Sheets and plates | Panel dimensions, thickness variation, flatness condition and visible faces. | Laminate requirement, support condition, measurement locations and appearance reference. |
| CNC parts | Critical holes, datums, outline, thickness, edges and set contents. | Dimensioned drawing, revision, critical features and component list. |
| Telescopic assemblies | Selected lengths, sections, locks, head connection and supplied accessories. | Configuration list, intended setup and agreed operating limitations. |
What a useful record identifies
- Order, part/reference number and drawing revision.
- Sample or batch identification and the date of the check.
- Feature, target, tolerance or acceptance criterion.
- Measurement method, equipment identification where required, and the actual result.
- Disposition of any deviation and the approval responsibility.
Ask which records can be supplied for the selected project. Special material, load, fatigue or environmental testing requires an agreed test article, method and scope; it is not implied by routine dimensional or visual inspection.
Inspection-plan outline
Copy the fields below into your enquiry or drawing notes. They are deliberately blank: no measurement has been performed or certified by this template.
| Part / drawing revision | To be completed for the project |
|---|---|
| Feature / measurement location | To be completed for the project |
| Target / acceptance limit | To be agreed |
| Method / sample scope | To be agreed |
| Required record / approval | To be agreed |
Keep supply conditions explicit
Separate tooling, samples, components, hardware, packing and documentation in the quotation. State prototype and production quantities, the requested destination and target date. MOQ, achievable tolerances and timing depend on the selected configuration and must be confirmed in the quotation, not inferred from another supplier’s catalogue.
Sources, examples and corrections
This page is source-informed, AI-assisted purchasing guidance based on CFW’s published product routes. It does not claim review by a named engineer. Project-specific technical approval remains separate. Send corrections or a conflicting product detail to admin@carbonfiberworld.com, including the page URL and product reference.
